Artist Background
My journey with art making began with a passion in my final years at college. Over the years I have developed my own style of painting and drawing, ever changing through different stages of my life. I have always loved teaching art, the joy and excitement of working with young people in a creative way. It has also been important for me to travel and most of my own artwork has been a reflection of experiences of place.
Growing up on a farm in the Adelaide Hills, I have always had a fascination with Country and place. As a visual person I am constantly soaking up light and detail, I look for the small joys wherever I can find them. The most insignificant, disused objects/architecture, can be the inspiration for much delight.
My work often wavers between careful detailed realism to abstract expressions of colour. I am constantly challenged by bringing both these styles together. The excitement of spontaneous application of colour and light onto a large blank space is unexplainable. However, the time consuming, detailed layers of working in oil to capture the realism of the surface quality of an object is totally therapeutic and engaging. It is one of the most difficult but most rewarding processes.
I continue to study and learn and my work continues to develop along the way.
